Kathleen usually uses a combination of wool, mohair, alpaca, and silk in her pieces. Fiber gathered from anywhere she travels; she especially likes the yarns available in Nova Scotia, but most come from Maine. Most rugs are hooked on a jute backing and occasionally linen.
The beauty and isolation of the Vinalhaven, 12 miles off the Maine coast, are tremendously compelling for Kathleen. Retired from teaching after 44 years, she spends many satisfying hours observing nature, planning rug designs, searching for beautiful fibers, and hooking rugs…..one loop at a time.
