FINE LOCAL ART & CRAFT IN THE HEART OF MIDCOAST MAINE
Holidays! The busy holiday season is just about here and we have some fun things planned. Once again we'll have some of our artists demonstrating their craft in our window. Our tentative schedule is on the right. You might see weaving, hand printing, wood carving or more!
We'll be open later on a few days, but closed on each holiday. We're also participating in some of the events organized by downtown Bath like Bright Night Bath. Be sure to check out the gallery when you're in town. |
We are pleased that Stephanie Crossman has added her unique pieces to the gallery this month. These pieces truly need to be seen in person to understand the intricacy of what Stephanie does with an ancient craft.
"Traditional knotted netting is an ancient skill that I have taken to a contemporary end. I use the same knot & tools as the fishermen, only on a smaller scale. My husband’s great-grandmother taught me the technique when she was 92 years old. " |
Sara has been a weaver since 1971 and we are all looking forward to having her work in the gallery. Her passion for textiles and color is evident in the rugs, runners, and pillows she weaves. She borrows from the rag rug tradition where strips of many varied cotton fabrics (prints, solids, checks, and textures) -- the weft -- are woven row by row to achieve evocative color striations. Her hand manipulated techniques are based on traditional methods.
