Journey Guides are meant to encourage exploration and personal journeying internally in spirit, and externally in Nature.
I made my first Journey Guide in the 1970's. I wanted to create a figure I could hang on the wall that would inspire exploration and journeying for the child I was carrying. I was a Fine Art student at SUNY Buffalo, NY, with a minor in Creative Writing. I knew a lot of poets. It seems my poet friends all wanted a Journey Guide of their own. I so enjoyed making these figures that would encourage positive connections with Nature and moving forward in time. I never stopped making Journey Guides.
