Mary Williams

Mary learned eco printing from her neighbor and was hooked. The process involves mordanting fabric prior to laying out plant material. Mordanting is a chemical bath that enables the color of the plant to transfer to the fabric. Fabrics can be silk or cotton. Once the material is treated, its laid out, plant material such as maple leaves, coreopsis, daisies, geraniums and many others are placed on the fabric, the fabric is rolled on a dowel, wrapped in parchment paper, wrapped string around it and then steamed for 1 hour. After cooling, its unwrapped, rinsed and steam ironed when dry. The results are amazing and each item is unique.
